OM606 Engine Technical Data
The OM606 3.0L Diesel Engine replaced the single overhead camshaft (SOHC) OM603 engine beginning in 1993. It is related to the straight-4 2.0 and 2.2 liter OM604 and the straight-5 2.5 liter OM605 engine families of the same era.
The engine block itself is derived from the inline 6 cylinder M103 and M104 gasoline engines, with the Diesel crankshaft differing somewhat from the gasoline versions. The main differences between the naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions include the cylinder head, injection pump, valves, camshafts, rods, intake and exhaust manifolds and other minor differences like oil feed and return holes for the turbo with a different crankcase ventilation system, valve cover and plastic engine cover.
