Mercedes OM442 Technical Data
These third generation motors of the OM442 series were release in the late 1980's and included turbocharged and intercooler features in the OM442A and OM442LA variants.
The OM44X series engines were initially released from 1989 to 1992 in two variants:
- OM441 Naturally aspirated V6 engine yielding approximately 224 hp
- OM442 Naturally aspirated V8 engine yielding 290 hp
These new generation OM442 engines feature robust cast iron blocks which were specifically popular in harsh hot desert climates due to their large displacements and low operating temperatures.
The Mercedes Benz ever popular OM44X series engines were an evolution from the highly respected OM42X series used in the predecessor NG chassis. As a result, the OM441 and OM442 engines share many similar (not identical) components which date as far back to the very early Mercedes Benz OM401 and OM402 diesel engines.
OM 442
The later variants (Released from 1992 to 1998) were classed as EURO 1 Emission standard engines.
OM 442 A
The OM442A Four-stroke diesel engine manufactured by Mercedes-Benz has a volume of 14,618 cubic centimeters. This third generation 442 series V8-diesel engines generate 260 kW (354 hp). OM442A included turbocharged performance.
OM 442 LA
Mercedes-Benz OM442 LA engine became popular in the 90's in various vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz SK series, such as Mercedes-Benz SK 1838 or Mercedes-Benz SK 1844 among other applications. The OM442LA 15.1 Liter Twin Turbo V8 engine yielded between 350 hp and up to 530 hp when fitted with an intercooler. OM442LA included turbocharged and charged intercooler features.
