The Mercedes-Benz OM 904 LA Diesel Engine is a 4-cylinder motor that has a displacement of (4250 cm3), with turbocharged and intercooled features designed for the light commercial vehicle class. Direct-injection, highly sophisticated turbocharger and air-to-air intercooler characteristics are enhanced by multi-valve technology, high-pressure injection via unit pumps and the electronic engine control system.
The OM 904 LA direct injection diesel engine offered in-line cylinder configuration with separate fuel injection pumps attached to the crankcase and driven by a centrally located camshaft. Two inlet and one exhaust valve per cylinder combined with an exhaust gas turbocharger, charge air intercooling and electronic control system combine to regulate injection quantity and timing via solenoid valves for low-emission operation.
Control systems offer in-built error detection providing quick fault finding. Easy maintenance, reliability and economy allow the OM904 to meet global regulations, and enhance its ability to comply with future regulations.
Vehicle Applications and Specifications
Mercedes OM904 was fitted in some Pre-2000 Vario vehicles with the Vario 618D/818D models housing the 4.2-liter turbo intercooled diesel with direct injection which offered an output of 150 hp and torque of 580 Nm.
