Series (W112) 1961-1967 Production Models
The
Mercedes Benz Series W112, Type 300SE, 300SEL where produced from 1961
to 1967, including 4-door sedans, 2-door coupe's and cabriolet's. all
of which used the M189 engine.
Production models for the 4-door 300SE sedans ran from 1961–1965 and also included a 300SEL long which was produced from 1962-1965.
300SE Coupe and convertible Cabriolet 2-door models were produced from 1962-1967
The
112 models were based on the Mercedes-Benz W111
Fintail chassis and coachwork, but were fitted with the 3.0 liter fuel-injected
M189 big-block six-cylinder engine. Additionally, these luxury models
included air suspension, power steering an automatic transmission, and
a higher level of interior trim including fine grade wood and leather.
The W112 300SE models differed from its fintail variant relatives the W110 and W111 externally by displaying more chrome, bigger wheels, and included top of the line performance from a M189 six-cylinder engine rated at 160 hp (170 after 1964) with a top speed of 112 mph (118 after 1964).
The W112 succeeded the W189 series but production volume fell as public demand for these models decreased until 1965 when production began being phased out making way for its successors, the W109 Series and W111 280SE 3.5.
