Series (W110) 1961-1968 Production Models

The Mercedes-Benz W110 190c and 190Dc where the original 4-cylinder fintail sedan variants introduced with the choice of either a petrol or diesel engine, both displacing 1.9 Liters. Built to compete in the North American market, they were powered by the M121 gasoline and OM621 diesel inline-four cylinder motors. As phase 1 of the W110 type, the 190c and 190dc replaced the 180c / 180dc of the W120 type and the 190b / 190db of the W121 types beginning in April, 1961.

In 1965 a revised range of W110 vehicles were introduced beginning with the first one, the 230, "oddly" being a "six-cylinder" M180 engine variant.

This was followed by the new 200 M121 Petrol and 200D OM621 Diesel model vehicles being introduced for the North America market.

Production of the new 200 and 200 D models replaced the 190 c and 190 dc respectively.

W110 series production lasted another three more years, with the successors, the W115 220 and 220D being introduced in 1968.

The W110 series along with the W111 and W112 sedans were nicknamed Heckflosses (Fintail) after their rear winged quarter panels, with the W110 190Dc taxi models appearing to be very similar in style to the W112 M189 big-block sedan models.
