In
September 1977 the 450 SLC 5.0 Liter Coupé joined the Mercedes Series
107 lineup. This model featured a new all-aluminum five-liter V8 engine,
aluminum alloy bonnet and boot-lid, a black rubber rear spoiler, and
a small front-lip spoiler. The 450SLC 5.0 was produced to participate
in the 1978 World Rally Championship, and had a successful rally career.
The 450SLC 5.0 produced specs of 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 8.50 seconds, a maximum top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h), a curb weight of 3340 lbs (1515 kgs), and was powered by the naturally-aspirated V8-cylinder petrol engine, with motor code 117.960, M 117 E 50.
This engine produces a maximum power of 243 PS (240 bhp - 179 kW) at 5000 rpm and a maximum torque of 401.0 Nm (295 lb.ft) at 5000 rpm. The power is transmitted to the road by the rear wheel drive (RWD) with a 4 speed Automatic gearbox.

1,636 450 SLC-5.0 vehicles were produced from 1977-1980 which lived
on the 107.026 chassis and are powered by the 117.960 engine through
its production run. This is the same chassis and engine that was carried
forward in the 500SLC.
