OM366 Technical Data
The Mercedes-Benz 300 series OM364 and OM366 models arrived in 1983/1984 intended to be fitted in the mid-range performance class with OM366A turbocharged and OM366LA intercooled turbocharged versions.
These OM 366 inline four-stroke 6-cylinder I6 diesel engines were the most advanced engines in the 300 series at the time. However, the introduction of environmental norms Euro II and Euro III emissions standards preempted the end of OM364 and OM366 production with the 900 engine series becoming their replacement.
366 series applications included Unimogs, vans, trucks, buses and machinery like forklifts, power generators and special-purpose MB trac vehicles.
OM 366 A
The OM366A turbocharged motor with 360 cubic inch displacement was released in 1984 and replaced the predecessor OM362A. These engines were widely used in heavy machinery like the combine harvester CLAAS Dominator 98.
OM 366 LA
The OM366LA was updated in 1991 for the purpose of adaptation to meet Euro I standards. Thereafter, it had a maximum engine power rating of 240 hp. Additionally, intercoolers (German abbreviation ‘L’) and turbochargers (German abbreviation ‘A’) allowed maximum output to be reached at lower engine speed of 2600 rpm helping reduce fuel consumption and noise, along with extending engine life expectancy.
