W123 Series 1975-1986 Production Models
The
Mercedes Benz 123 series offered a lineup of executive cars produced
between 1975 and 1986.
The 123 Series shared a few similarities with its predecessor W114 Models, however, the longer wheelbase made it more spacious and comfortable for a business saloon. The W123 models surpassed the W114 series as the most successful series to date, selling over 2.7 million vehicles during their 12 year run.
As
for the chassis codes, the W123 includes the regular sedan, S123 the
estate, C123 the coupe, V123 the Lang, and the F123 long bare chassis
for conversions. North America vehicles included Diesel models 240D,
300D, 300CD, 300TD, and Petrol models 230, 280E, 280CE.
Mercedes Benz 123 series full line of production models included: 200 230 230E 250 280 280E 200D 220D 240D 300D 300D*T 230C 230CE 280C 280CE 300CD 300CDT 200T 230T 230TE 250T 280TE 240TD 300TD 300TDT.
The
Mercedes 123 series vehicles proved to be well built and reliable with
many taxi companies choosing the W123 for their passenger taxi fleet.
The “Lang” versions could be ordered as 240D, 300D and 250 models. The
123 Series durability saw many vehicles reaching 500,000 or even 1,000,000
km with only minor mechanical issues.
The introduction of a 123 coupe version (W123C/CE) came in 1976, which had a shorter wheelbase than the saloon, and was available with both 230C and 280 C/CE engines.
America also saw the availability of a 300 TD wagon version with a natural aspirated engine, and later with a turbocharged 3 liter diesel engine. The public favored the turbocharged engine which they found to be more fitting in heavier W123 estate wagon models.
