Mercedes Benz OM648The Mercedes-Benz OM648 engine is a 3.2 Liter, straight-6 diesel motor with cast iron engine block and aluminum head. It featured common rail fuel injection with a single variable nozzle turbocharger, DOHC 4 valves per cylinder and was produced from 2002 to 2006.

It was assembled from 2002 to 2006 and installed in the E-Class W210, W211 body along with the restyled S-Class in the W220 body. In addition to the regular version 204 hp, a modification version was offered with a reduced 177 hp. The OM 648 motor was produced in two versions - 648.960 (installed on S320CDI) and 648.961 (installed on E320CDI and E280CDI), both with a 3222 cc displacement.

OM 648 Engine Technical Data

The OM648 3.2-liter 6-cylinder in-line engine was manufactured by the Mercedes-Benz division of Daimler AG as a replacement for the previous Mercedes-Benz OM612 inline-5 and OM613 inline-6 cylinder engines. It was superseded by the OM642 beginning 2005.

The injection system operates at 1,600 bar (23,000 psi). Power output is 204 PS (150 kW; 201 hp) at 4200 rpm and 500 Nm (369 lb.ft) of torque from 1,800-2,600 rpm. Bore is 88 mm (3.46 in) and Piston stroke is 88.3 mm (3.48 in)

Mercedes claims this engine will propel the E320 CDI to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.6 seconds. All while managing 27 mpg US (8.7 L/100 km; 32 mpg‑imp) + City, and 37 mpg US (6.4 L/100 km; 44 mpg‑imp) + Highway.
