Mercedes OM501 Engine Technical Data
The OM 501 is a 12-litre V6 from Mercedes-Benz belongs to a family of two variants, that offers outputs ranging from 235 kW (320 hp) to 350 kW (476 hp) with the OM 501 LA-541 and the OM 502 LA-542. The engine management system employed by this engine is the PLD (Pumpe Leitung Duese-German abbr) which incorporates single plug-in pumps for each cylinder supplying fuel under pressure (up to 1,600 bar) to the injection valves. A control unit MR monitors all engine operating conditions via several sensors and varies the injection pressure to suit each operating condition.
The OM 501 LA engines are designed to withstand tough requirements however extreme the climatic conditions, or difficult the terrain. Equipped with an exhaust turbocharger with charge-air intercooling, maximum torque is already achieved at 1080 rpm helping fuel-efficient. Fuel consumption can be cut by as much as seven percent thanks to BlueTec technology.
