Mercedes M117 Engine 1971-1992 Technical Data

All M117 models were gasoline powered and utilized a OHC (overhead cam) with 2 valve per cylinder along with D-Jetronic or K-Jetronic fuel injection depending on application.

Many M117 performance variations were produced over their production span beginning in the late 1980s, with a handful of fully re-engineered AMG 560 SEC 6.0 “Wide-Body” Coupes being fitted with the legendary M117/9 V-8 engines modified to 6.0-liters with a radically improved quad-cam, four-valves per cylinder, and improved ignition timing. Some versions produced over twice the torque at 1/2 the rpm of unmodified models.

  • ?? W116 1971-1975

The M117.985 K-Jetronic (4.5 Liter V8) featured a compression ratio of 8.8 : 1, bore x stroke 92 x 85 mm ( 3.62 in x 3.34 in), and produced 160 kW (218 PS) @ 5000 rpm, and torque of 360 Nm (266 ft/lb) @ 3250 rpm, and a 4.5 L (4,520 cc) displacement, produced 1973-1980

Application:

  • 1973 - 1980 R107 450 SL
  • 450 SL 107.044 1976-1980
  • 450 SLC 107.024 1976-1980

Production of the M117.982 (D-Jetronic) and M117.985 (K-Jetronic) offered different engine versions for Europe and the USA (emission regulated) markets. USA versions accepted lower fuel quality in both the 450SL and 450SLC as well as with other numbers in W108 280 SE(L) 4.5 and W116 450SE.

Application:

  • 280 SE, SEL 4.5 (W108)
  • 300 SEL 4.5 (W109)
  • 450 SE, SEL (W116)
