Series (W108) 1965-1972 Production Models
The
Mercedes-Benz W108 series premièred at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1965
with numerous models being produced from 1965 to 1972.
The initial 1965 model lineup consisted of three W108's including the 250S, 250SE, and 300SEb, with the 280S and 280SE replacing the 250SE and 300SEb models in November 1967. In January 1968, the 280SEL M130 engine model was introduced.
The
250S M108 straight-six 2496 ccm engine delivered
132 hp at 5400 rpm, accelerated to 62 mph in 13 seconds (14 with
automatic transmission) and had a top speed of
113 mph (110 auto). The 250SE M129 engine included a fuel injection
system and delivered 152 hp at 5500 rpm, and top speed of 120 mph for
both manual and automatic versions. The 280 SE and 280 SEL M130 engine
models accelerated to 62 mph in 10.5 seconds with top speeds of 120
mph and 118 mph respectively.
The 300SEb used the M189 2996 ccm engine.
During the summer of 1970, the 280SE 3.5 and 280SEL 3.5 models were added with the M116 3499 ccm 197 hp engine, and in spring of 1971 the final set of W108 V8 powered models 280SE 4.5 and 280SEL 4.5 were introduced housing the M117 4520 ccm 225 hp engine, completing the W108 series.
