Series (W202) 1993-2000 Production Models
The Mercedes-Benz W202 Series is a compact executive car produced from 1993–2000, under the C-Class model names. It succeeded the W201 series with its styling themes being carried over, and 1,847,382 W202 models were produced.
W202s in North America were launched for sale in the U.S. in November 1993 and included the C220 (later replaced by the C230), C280 (both I6 and V6) and the AMG variants including the C36 and C43 AMG. North America received 1,150 C43 models.
The Mercedes S202 Estate Wagons consisted of the C 200 with 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, and the S202 Estate C 200 Wagon with a 2.0-liter petrol M111 engine with 5speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes S202 C-Class Estate was 4487 mm long, 1720 mm wide, 1430 mm tall and had a 2690 mm long wheelbase.
The W202 C-Class offered a complete lineup of multi-valve engines. The new M111 four-cylinder petrol engines debuted in the C 180 (1.8 L, 120 hp), C 200 (2.0 L, 134 hp) and C 220 (2.2 L, 148 hp). In 1997 the C 220 was replaced by the C 230, enlarged to 2.3 L displacement.
In 1995, the W202 C-Class performance model C 36 AMG was introduced. The C36 AMG accelerates to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds with a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph. Only 5200 C36 AMGs were produced.
In 2 May 1996, patents updates to the W202 C-Class subsequently gave a minor facelift with revised wheels, interior trim, door moldings, front and rear bumper fascias, color-coded side skirts, darker tail light lenses, and integrated rear window radio antenna. C 200, C 230 models were fitted with a supercharger and "Kompressor" emblems.

The original W202 models came standard in Germany with a five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions optional. In the United States, automatic transmission was standard, with manual available as a option. The four-speed automatic was the 722.4 version of the 4G-Tronic. In 1996, this transmission was replaced by the 722.6 or 5G-Tronic five-speed automatic transmission, which received a manual shift mode in 1999. In 2000 the RWD C 240 was available with the optional six-speed G56 manual transmission from the W203.
