Series (R171) 2004-2010 Production Models
The
Mercedes-Benz R171 second generation SLK series was unveiled at the
74th Geneva International Motor Show — and manufactured and marketed
for model years 2004–2010.
The R171 features revisions over its predecessor, the R170 including a increased length (72mm) and width (65mm), seven-speed auto transmission and increased trunk storage by 63 liters, 2.25 cubic feet.
Production models included the SLK 200 2004-2011, SLK 280 2005-2008, SLK 300 2009-2011, SLK 350 2004-2011 and SLK 55 AMG 2004-2011
The R171 offers fully galvanized bodywork with 46 percent improved top down torsional strength.
The R171 made Car and Driver's Ten Best list for 2005 and won the Canadian Car of the Year Best New Convertible award.
In 2006 AMG released several new models, only available in select export markets, including:
- SLK 55 Track Sport
- SLK 55 Asia Cup
- SLK 55 'F1 Safety Car'
- SLK 55 AMG Black Series (2006-2008)
AMG Black Engine was upgraded to 395 hp at 5750 rpm and 384 lb.ft of torque at 4000 rpm.
