Series (W121) 1955-1963 Production Models
In
1955, Mercedes-Benz introduced the W121 190SL Roadster, and the 190SL
Coupe which were followed a year later with the W121 190 Sedan models,
all of which used the M121 engine.
A few years later in 1958, a 190D was introduced with the OM621 diesel engine. Right after that in 1959 the 190b petrol and 190Db diesel models hit the market replacing the original 190 sedan.
Then
in 1961, new variants of the 190SL roadster and coupe were introduced
superseding the previous release models and completing the W121 series
with production ending in 1963.
The roadster variant W121-190SL, housed the 1.9 liter M121 engine and was produced from 1955 to 1963, with a W127 M180 220SL Prototype variant being built on the 190SL chassis, but it never made it into production, as the W113 took its place.
The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL (W121) was a two-door luxury roadster available either as a soft-top convertible, or with removable hardtop. It was powered by a M121 1.9 liter straight-four SOHC engine, and fitted with dual twin-choke Solex carburetors producing 120 gross horsepower.
The Mercedes 121 series was succeeded by the W113 roadster, and the W110 sedan series.
