Series (W115) 1968-1976 Production Models
The
Mercedes-Benz W115 Series was a line of 4 and 5 cylinder vehicles that
shared their chassis and body with the W114
6-cylinder series of sedans introduced in 1968.
The W115 models were manufactured through model year 1976, and distinguished in the marketplace by being named after their 4-cyliner and 5-cylinder engine sizes.
North
America W115 models included the 220 with M115 2.0
liter petrol engine, 220D with OM615 2.0 liter diesel engine, 230
with M115 2.0 liter petrol engine, 240D with OM616 2.4 liter diesel
engine, and the 300D with 3.0 liter diesel engine.
These stacked-headlight Mercedes-Benz mid-range saloons were the company’s bread-and-butter for almost a decade between 1968-1976. The W115 (four-cylinder) and W114 (six-cylinder) saloons extended the variation range on these shared chassis and body variants to include a wide range of engine and body options.
The Mercedes-Benz W 115 being the economical series with four and five cylinder petrol or diesel engine choices offered a consumer friendly and affordable line of vehicles that met the needs of an economical economy conscious public.
