Type 219 (W105) 1956-1959 Production Models

The Mercedes-Benz W105 Series Type 219 was produced from 1956 to 1959 and featured a 2.2 L inline 6-cylinder petrol engine.

The 219 models were built on two chassis variations W105.010 and a sliding roof model W105.011 (Webasto "Covertex" vinyl sunroof). These vehicles weighing a quoted 2778 lbs and a total of 27,845 W105 models were built with the 4-door sedan body style and 2.2 liter 2195 cc M180 II engine featuring an overhead cam (OHC).

The 219's M180.921 engine developed 88.5 HP of power at 4800 rpm, and maximum torque of 123 lbft at 2400 rpm. It came with a column shift attached to a standard 4 speed manual gearbox transmission, and was stated to have a maximum top cruising speed of 92 mph.

The W105's predecessor was the Mercedes-Benz W142 with its successor Mercedes-Benz W128 Series superseding the W 105 beginning in 1958.

The W105 was nicknamed ponton, for its pontoon shape styling, with the design from a-pillars forward being identical to the 220a, and from the a-pillars back, it used the shorter body type of the W120 180 / W121 190 models. The one-piece windows in the rear doors are how to identify and differentiate them from the 220a and 220S which had separate quarter windows.
