Series (W128) 1958-1960 Production Models

The Mercedes-Benz W128 Series Type 220 was a line of 3 body styles, the sedan, coupe and cabriolet convertible that housed the 6-cylinder M127 petrol engine, with the sedan models being produced from October 1958 to August 1959, and the Coupe and Cabriolet production from July 1958 to November 1960. Marketed as the 220SE, it was the last of the “Ponton” series which had design roots dating back to the W120 180 sedan.

The 220SE featured a unitized body/frame construction and fully independent suspension. All models were fitted with Mercedes’ M127 2.2 L (2195 cc) straight 6 gasoline engine with aluminum head, overhead camshaft, and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. An automatic clutch was available with column-mounted 4-speed manual transmission.

The Mercedes-Benz W128 Series replaced its predecessors, the W105 and W142 series beginning in 1958, and was succeeded by the W111 series in 1960.

W128 Models had interiors dresses in leather but features were very basic. Body styles Included:

4-door sedan
2-door coupe
2-door cabriolet.
