Beginning
production in 1980, the Mercedes Benz 500SLC Coupe hit the European
market offering a sporty coupe to the European public.
The M117 5.0 Liter Engine that powered the 500SLC was a petrol powered V8 8-cylinder engine, motor # M117.960 single row timing chain, then updated to # 117.964 double row timing chain. It produced 237 to 241hp horsepower, or 177-180 kW kilowatt-sat depending on date manufactured.
With specifications of 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 7.80 seconds, a maximum top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h), and a curb weight of 3340 lbs (1515 kgs). The C107 500 SLC is a naturally-aspirated M 117 E 50 engine. This engine produces a maximum power of 240 PS (237 bhp - 177 kW) at 5000 rpm and a maximum torque of 402.0 Nm (296 lb.ft) at 5000 rpm. The power is transmitted to the road by the rear wheel drive (RWD) with a 4 speed Automatic gearbox.
