Mercedes R107 450SL ArticleThe Mercedes Benz SL-Series 107 (R107 Convertible Roadster, and C107 Rally Coupe), succeeded the Pagoda “W113" in 1971 establishing a new design. The appearance of the R 107 was style-defining design in the 1970s.

The United States was the largest sales market, and the majority of the vehicles were equipped with large-volume V8 engines. The U.S. received types 450 SL and 450 SLC (badged 350 in 1971), 380 SL, 380 SLC and 560 SL.

The 107 series remained in production for a total of 18 years with its successor the R 129 being introduced 1989.

The 107 Roadster has been heavily revised over the years with performance displacement innovative enhancements. From 1989, model versions could no longer be delivered without a catalytic converter.

The SLC Coupe models were offered from 1971 to 1981, first only as 350 SLC, then from 3/1973 as 450 SLC, from 1974 as 280 SLC, and the 380 SLC from 8/80 to 7/81. Additionally, the 450 SLC 5.0 was offered from 8/1977 along with the 500 SLC, with the same motors and gearbox equipment as the Roadster.
